Reno is second in command of an organization known as the Turks, who are essentially the FBI/CIA mixed with the Secret Service, functioning as an intelligence agency and direct reports to the President on the outside, and as black ops spies on the inside. They are privy to many company secrets and in addition to investigating and espionage, also engage in kidnapping, assassinations, and other unscrupulous acts for the company (they do the "dirty work," basically).

As a person, Reno is sarcastic and laid-back, with a charming, outgoing exterior at times, and a nasty hothead with a sadistic streak other times. Above all, he is consummately dedicated to the Turks and takes his job seriously. He's easy to befriend but difficult to get to know, as he does not talk much about himself often; rather, he prefers to get others talking about themselves instead. He loves to gossip, parties and high-energy activities, drinks and smokes to excess and has a propensity for sleeping around.

His features are sharp and he is very fox-faced, with full lips and pointy canines. Bright eyes, bright hair (long and always worn back in a ponytail. If not pulled back, it would be about lower back in length), shows a lot of chest. Shortish, rangy and quite thin, he has an unassuming stature but looks and acts as if he owns the room. Two red crescent marks under his eyes, possibly tattoos.

Wears a black suit most of the time, or simple slacks and t-shirts when in plainclothes. He also almost always has his goggles on his forehead (what are they for, nobody knows). Under his clothes, he is a map of scars and burns, also many freckles. Quick movements, slinky walk. Shifty eyes, cocky expression.

Reno uses a special baton outfitted with a taser that feeds the electricity through the weapon itself. He uses this in hand to hand combat and can shock and paralyze enemies with a hit. Its wattage is theoretically lethal. The electricity can be turned on and off with the push of a button. Equipping grants resistance to lightning attacks/electric damage. He has several special things he can do with it:

⚡ EM Shot (or Triple EM Shot): fires a fast-moving ball of electric energy that paralyzes/stuns on contact directly from the end of the EMR (triple is this x3).

⚡ Pyramid: traps a single target inside a gold pyramid that can be broken with enough physical or magical force. It is not airtight, but it is difficult to breathe inside, and can eventually cause unconsciousness for those average or below average lung capacity.

⚡ EM mine: these are technically little bomb-looking objects that he uses separately but look identical to the EM shot energy balls. They are electric and form a "web" of electricity connecting them together where they hover in midair, damaging and stunning any who touch them. They also will explode if hit with force.

⚡ EM Flail: whips one of the EM mines at a target, shocking them and binding them in place.

⚡ Bright Spark: slams those EM mines down on a target all at once for some big damage.

⚡ Electroburst: a leap into the air followed by a powerful blast of magic-based lightning (most likely from a slotted Lightning materia, but it could also just be the EMR itself).

⚡ Flashfoot: leaves electric streaks behind him as he darts around which do Lightning damage on contact.

⚡ He can also just beat the shit out of you with the baton (with abilities such as Beatdown, Rushdown Shock Swipe, Flashstrike, and Wild Swings, all of which are basically agile melee attacks/combos that sometimes include a shock at the end).

Reno is so fast that he can almost seem to disappear and reappear a short distance away (with an electric/sparkly sort of effect that follows behind him). He is naturally extremely agile, flexible, and quick. He can climb, run, jump, and bend more capably than most normal people, but he is not superhuman or enhanced. His fighting style is hand to hand and he's very well-trained in it, although he prefers a hit-and-run style of quick evasion and ranged attacks from his EMR than to duke it out one-on-one as he is not very physically strong.

Investigative Sector of General Affairs

Effectively a federal investigator for over ten years, Reno has sharp deductive reasoning skills and powers of observation. He knows his way around a crime scene, how to follow a lead, and especially how to track someone down (particularly when they don't want to be found), and especially-especially how to extract information from them or kill them when he finds them. As a trained assassin, he is capable with weapons, poisons, and explosives. The Turks also specialize in crowd suppression—that is, they silence dissidents and help facilitate the spread of Shinra propaganda. (These days, though, they're really nothing more than glorified bodyguards and errand boys.) Nothing he can do in this regard is beyond the realm of things that a normal human being could do, but it bears mentioning. He's good at his job!!

Reno's canon point is post-Advent Children Complete, and I will mostly be utilizing the OG timeline for his sequence of events. However, given how well Remake spiced up some scenes and filled in some gaps for the Turks, I may also use some elements of that as well, excluding ones that change major events. For example, I'll be keeping his relationship with Aerith and discomfort with the plate job from Remake, but will not be keeping the fight or subsequent events with the Whispers in the church, or the change where Rude also participates directly in the plate job.

PHYSICAL AFFECTION:
He can handle hugs and handholding and cutesy shit, but it's not really his forte. He's not the cuddly, emotional type (that he knows of, but what lurks beneath the ice? it's a mystery), so while he may accept those sorts of gestures, you'll get a lot of "yeah, yeah, alright already" for your trouble.

Physical attention that's obviously flirtatious or sexual will land a lot more smoothly, and will likely be returned in kind. You can get pretty forward and aggressive with that kind of thing and it won't bother him any, but if he's not in the mood or you cross the line, he'll put the kibosh on it real quick. That said, it's not very often that he says no to anything, so feel free to push your luck and see where it gets you.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE:
Absolutely. Reno is a trained fighter and a good, experienced one at that. He's not shy about throwing down, whether it's something as stupid as a drunken bar brawl or a more serious confrontation. I'm happy to write blood, bruises, and straight up gore and death if it gets to that point, but keep in mind that Reno's not about to lay down his life for damn near anything (there are a few exceptions), so he's more likely to peace out unless he has absolutely no choice but to stand his ground.

You can also see more on his abilities and whatnot here. I won't put up with powergaming/godmodding, so while I'm more than happy to have Reno lose fights more often than not, don't just assume your character will win without checking with me first.

SHIPPING:
I'm down for it in every form and so is Reno. M/M, M/F and everything else is welcomed; he has no gender preference. He's not the dating or long term relationships type, generally, so you're more likely to get flings and FWB out of him than anything. It takes a lot of work to get feelings out of him, and a hell of a lot longer than that before he'll ever be willing to acknowledge them in any meaningful way. Castmates might have an easier time of this than others, depending—see below for more info.

PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION:
His head is full of secrets, but they're mostly relevant to his canon universe (and a lot of them don't matter now that the apocalypse has basically happened already). He'll be quick to suss out intel, dirt on others, and all kinds of other things though, so he can be a real cheat sheet to a mindreader. Feel free to hit me up to discuss!

As far as what you can glean about Reno and his personal life/info, his canonical backstory is a bit vague. I've filled in some gaps with headcanon and side material, but there are a lot of things we don't have answers for. Definitely PM me to chat about this.

MAGICAL INFORMATION:
Reno can't do magic innately; only with the use of Materia. He primarily uses high-level Lightning magic, but he's not very mage-y, so he mostly only uses it in conjunction with his physical attacks. You'll never catch him using healing magic (he prefers items and technological restoratives instead). Aside from that, there's nothing magical or spiritual about him.

MEDICAL INFORMATION:
Health is normal, nothing noteworthy. He smokes, drinks, and generally takes mediocre care of himself, but he's still in really good shape. He has an extremely high metabolism, so he can eat all damn day and still not put on weight. It's a struggle for him and you can keep your "skinny bitch" comments to yourself u^ u

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS:
Nothing whatsoever. He's seen it all and if he hasn't, he's probably curious about finding out. Reno's almost impossible to upset in this context and his moral compass is... faulty. That said, he definitely does have lines he'd rather not cross, and if he sees others crossing them, he may be willing to stop them. If it suits him.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

VISUAL:
Here. He's about 5'6", lanky, fox-faced, and has brightly dyed red hair. (If his roots ever do show/it grows out, his natural color is a reddish-brown auburn). Usually looks shifty and sly, like he's up to something no matter what he's actually doing or the mood he's in. If he's not dressed in his suit, expect to still see monochromes wardrobe-wise (white tees, black pants, etc., more black and white than grayscale, but some of that, too).

AURAL:
Voice lines here. EN VA is Arnie Pantoja. Vocals range the scale from low and conspiratorial, all the way up to shrill and pesky. He gigglesnorts when he laughs. Sometimes he sounds like he's being a smartass/sarcastic even when he isn't trying to be.

OLFACTORY:
Cigarette smoke and spicy deodorant/aftershave. Also smoke, ozone, and probably alcohol.

DEMEANOUR:
Generally laid back, affable, a talker—but he prefers to talk others into talking back, so expect him to say a lot while revealing very little substantial information as a means to lead the other person into filling in the gaps. He's an investigator/detective (on the surface level) and has been doing it a long time, so it's force of habit for him to start gathering deets. The other side of his job's coin includes assassinations, interrogations, and other super shady shit, so he kind of gives the "wouldn't want to run into him alone in a dark alley" vibes.

SHIPPING PREFERENCES

FAVE:
Rude: They're fucking soulmates, I'm not normal about this ship in any way and never have been. His trust and loyalty for Rude is immeasurable, and he's one of the few exceptions to the "wouldn't lay down his life for anything" rule. Even though they've been partners a long time, there are things he won't even tell to him, so exploring those deep dark feelings/secrets/what have you between the two of them is always something I'm interested in. Most of the time I prefer to write them without a prior sexual history (but probably a whole shitton of unresolved feelings and UST), but the inverse is good too. I just love them ok ;_;

Cloud: Reno being from ACC means he's considerably chiller about their, uh, "rivalry" (or whatever it is their issue is) than he used to be, but there's still a whole boatload of "enemies to friends to lovers aaand they're antagonizing each other again" content there to enjoy. He may act like a little shit, but Cloud's managed to earn Reno's respect after everything that's happened and is someone he would go to bat for if called upon, either in a fight or otherwise.

Roche: ik only my bestie plays him but if there are any others out there, crash into me immediately.

HELL YEAH:
Zack: DFFOO giving us Reno absolutely fucked up by guilt and complex feelings about Zack and his death is all I ever wanted in life and I am so eager to play around with that. I just also love the potential for their Crisis Core era chaotic buddies vibe. They'd bring the house down if let off their leashes together. Probably literally.

Aerith: They've both got massive gremlin energy and get on like a house on fire (both in the good way and the "oh no" way). I think they serve as excellent moral and emotional foils for each other, so that's something I'm interested in exploring. Reno's also got complicated feelings about her death and how Shinra treated her, so that's good food as well. Although I play him from ACC and don't use Remake's changed events, I do like to keep some of the nuance to their relationship that it added in my characterization.

Tifa: Tifa might be one of the only people on the Planet that can get Reno to sit down and think about what he's done, mister. She can ground him, and he can get her riled up, so they're fun and interesting foils as well. I also just think they'd be cute training together—Reno canonically took boxing lessons! They can spar! It's bonding! (And also an opening for some rough-and-tumble messy hookups!)

GOOD:
Rufus: Without this guy he wouldn't have a job, or even probably be alive at all, so Rufus has his undying loyalty and he won't hesitate to show it... in any way. I'd love to explore the complexities and (potentially fucked up) nuances of that loyalty and their relationship in general. They're both pretty unemotional, surely that won't spell anything problematic later down the line.

Cid: Look, they both like things that fly, they're both foul-mouthed little assholes, and they both smoke like chimneys. I just think they're neat.

Vincent: Once a Turk, always a Turk, baybee ;)

Reeve: What would happen if you set Reno loose on a serious-about-his-work straight laced kinda guy that probably can't remember the last time he got shitfaced and made a series of satisfying but no less regrettable sexual mistakes? Let's find out.

Tseng: Similar to Rufus, Tseng has Reno's undying loyalty. They have a long history as friends and coworkers, and there's definitely a ton to unpack here. Not to mention I just think Reno would have fun melting the ice queen. With Reno, it's like melting the ice with a flamethrower.

Sephiroth: Listen... it could be good. "This could end up killing me" never stopped Reno before.

Jessie, Biggs, Wedge: It'd be complicated thanks to Sector 7, obviously, but either something taking place before then or a mismatched canon point (Reno being post-ACC, for example) could introduce some fun nuance there. Jessie in particular would give him a run for his money.

MAYBE:
Elena: While I mostly feel like Reno sees her as a "little sister" type, it could still happen. Get back to me when Rebirth gives us Elena's canon age tho.

Before Crisis Turks: Veld is an instant YES and so is Rod. I'd lose my mind if any of the others were around too though.

Barret: I don't see this happening realistically, but I still think it's hot so I'm putting it here anyway.

Red XIII: Look. He'd try it. Don't even fucking look at me.

Genesis, Angeal: Sure why not.

Scarlett: They'd probably slap each other to actual fucking death, but he's also not about to sleep on the opportunity to see whether Hot Dommy Mommy lives up to the hype.

Deepground: I have no idea but it would probably be weird and freaky so sure why not.

UNLIKELY:
Yuffie: Little too young and capricious for him. I'd write them doing gen shenanigans though!

Hojo, Palmer, President Shinra Sr.: If anyone plays any of these I'll be surprised, but nah man, Reno has exactly one (1) standard and it's to never fuck these folks.

CROSSCANON: Yes, always! I especially love playing him against characters from other FFs or KH (where my Axel/Leas at), but I'm open to pretty much anything and everything. Live action or not, any gender, any species, any whatever—Reno is down and I'm open to writing it.

KINK INFO

I don't make kink lists because I don't really care about kink very much (that is to say, I like my smut threads the way I like my gen threads: it goes where it goes organically, and if it gets freaky, cool). I will write anything, and I do mean absolutely anything, if I'm comfortable with you and our thread(s). I really can't draft up a yes or no list of this and that specifically, because it has nothing to do with content and everything to do with our chemistry as writers. There's not really a hard line between "will do this with someone I know versus won't with a stranger," either. It just really depends on vibes. Sorry for sounding flighty, but I mean it—if we cool, I'm down. If we're not, our threads probably aren't going anywhere to begin with.

Generally speaking, my "yes" column is all the usual, PG-13 stuff (examples including penetrative and oral sex, biting, light bondage, costumes, etc.) "Maybe" could be the more BDSM and monsterfucker stuff (knotting, heavy bondage, orgasm denial, bloodplay, etc). "No" is the gross/extreme shit (bathroom stuff, underage/infantilising, snuff, vore... I guess, is vore gross? whatever). But again, if I'm cool with you, absolutely everything is on the table. My only rule is that I will not play noncon under any circumstances, and am only open to writing dubcon rarely if at all. For dubcon, we'll need to discuss everything beforehand.
